FGC Group. When Great Minds Think Alike

Our client, Gold Coast business Donut Forget I Love You partnered with FGC Pty Ltd to source a Point Of Sale system to replace their previous system. A commercial POS solution at early stages of startup can sink capital quickly and we had a wide remit to deliver a cost effective and well supported solution for a multi-outlet, multi-staffed environment.

We foresaw a payment revolution arriving. The timing was perfect to streamline and take advantage of services that are changing the payment landscape for food, retail and small business. We audited the current technology available and sourced a capable digital till in a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet. The team followed a quick process to get our client set up for success before market open:

• Wipe the tablet (factory reset)


• Install a Rotation Lock app  - this was useful as staff needed to orient the tablet in a particular direction and not have it auto rotate. The tablet in this case was mounted on a portable cash register which was often shifted according to environment and security needs.


• Install a Screen On lock app - this kept the screen on all day so the staff were not constantly searching for the on the button.

We chose Square Register, in our view the most owner operator-friendly business app available. Square is an app developed by makers of the Square payment service. At the time of writing, in overseas territories, the user was restricted as to what types of payment they can accept. However, for cash payment or manually entering payments via EFTPOS this was sufficient for our project with the Donut Forget team.

A few other things set it apart including:-

• the ability to hook it up to a receipt printer; 
• send immediate email receipts to customers; 
• interface easy for anyone to understand and use; 
• multiple locations possible; 
• outstanding web interface to check in on sales history.

All of this was grounded in ease of use. After the shift, management was able to log in and check the stats from the previous day's trade.

The reports were exported and graphed for management meetings. There were even fun facts to share on social media channels after the week's trading was over - for example - "The top 4 flavours of last week were...".

The results? FGC successfully delivered a POS and Sales tracking system befit for budget and a short timeline with full staff training comprehensive analytics system for week to week sales. This improved stock control, stock wastage and enhanced seasonal profitability by forecasting upturns and downturns in traffic.
