For anyone renting or owning a house or flat in the suburbs or a city highrise which doesn’t include access to a back or front lawn, where is the nearest green space?
These ‘shared private gardens’ are for exclusive use for the tenants of a group of buildings - as seen in Edinburgh’s ‘new town’ for example. Here a city block of terraces face towards a well tended private park - with decorative (cast iron bars) fences - with greenery bordering - and key access.
For high density developments or high-rise, arterial roads and high foot traffic can be anathema to green open spaces. Well tended micro green spaces are a welcome respite The Gold Coast can benefit from micro-ised green space planning, where the needs of small group of houses/residents are catered for.
